What is LEED Certification?
The Grainery Lofts, is a LEED® Gold Certified building. This achievement marks the first privately owned and developed, multi-unit residential building east of Montreal to achieve LEED® Gold status.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a rating system for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings, homes and neighborhoods. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED® is intended to provide building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building solutions. The Grainery Lofts is a member of the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC).
LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health:
- sustainable site development
- water efficiency
- energy efficiency
- materials selection
- indoor environmental quality
LEED certification is based on the total point score achieved, following an independent review. With four possible levels of certification (certified, silver, gold and platinum), LEED is flexible enough to accommodate a wide range of green building strategies that best fit the constraints and goals of particular projects. The Grainery Lofts is a candidate for LEED Gold certification.
Everything about the Grainery Lofts was designed and constructed with eco-friendliness in mind. By restoring an under-utilized urban site, we were able to create an environmentally conscious building that embraces green transportation alternatives. Each suite incorporates low emission materials, heat recovery ventilation and plenty of natural light through operable windows.
Residents will be able to regulate and monitor their electrical and water consumption, ensuring complete control of their energy use. Each suite is equipped with a master switch at the door, which controls lighting and temperatures. One flick of the switch will reduce settings while you are gone.
